Tucked between the lively downtown Montreal and the historic vibe of Westmount, I’ve found Shaughnessy Village to be this hidden gem that blends excitement, convenience, and culture in the coolest way possible. Seriously, if you’re a student, whether you're just arriving in the city or you're up for rediscovering a spot that’s brimming with potential, Shaughnessy Village should definitely be on your radar. From cozy cafes to vibrant street art, it’s packed with places to chill, study, and just soak in the city’s energy. Let me tell you why this neighborhood has quickly become my go-to favorite—it’s got everything you need to keep life interesting!
Shaughnessy Village is located right in the heart of Montreal, bordered by Atwater Avenue to the west and Guy Street to the east. It’s a neighborhood that’s easily accessible by foot, bike, or public transit. The Guy-Concordia and Atwater metro stations on the Green Line serve as convenient entry points, making it easy to hop on and explore the rest of the city. For those who prefer biking, there are plenty of BIXI bike stations scattered throughout the area, and the flat terrain makes it perfect for cycling around.
One of my favorite things about Shaughnessy Village is that there’s always something happening, no matter the season! In the warmer months, it’s all about pop-up markets, cool outdoor art, and patios buzzing with people soaking up the sun. When fall and winter roll around, the neighborhood transforms with cozy cafes, unique little shops, and festive lights that make the streets feel magical.
Weekends are my go-to for exploring, with brunch spots bustling with energy, weekend markets, and the awesome Atwater Market just a short stroll away. And during the week? It’s perfect for a quieter vibe—ideal for studying in one of the many cafes or sneaking in a quick bite between classes. It’s honestly the best of both world
What sets Shaughnessy Village apart is its vibrant, welcoming atmosphere. The neighbourhood is a melting pot of cultures, with diverse eateries, shops, and events that reflect the city’s multicultural spirit. It’s also a hub for students, thanks to its proximity to Concordia University and Dawson College, making it easy to meet like-minded people and feel at home.
Affordability is another big draw—Shaughnessy Village offers a range of student-friendly housing options, from modern apartments to quaint old buildings with character. Plus, the local shops and grocery stores, like the ever-popular PA Supermarché, make everyday living affordable and convenient.
Shaughnessy Café is my little slice of heaven whenever I need a caffeine fix or just want to unwind. They have the best coffee, hands down, whether it’s a perfectly crafted cappuccino, a rich espresso, or something a bit more adventurous like their matcha or lavender lattes, every drink feels like it’s made just for me.
But it’s not just about the coffee; their croissants and all of their pastries are to die for! I can never resist them upss. My favorite sandwich/ bagel is their smoked salmon with lettuce, tomato & cucumber!! It’s so good. They also have a wide selection of coffee beans & ground coffee from different parts of latin america, as well as coffee mugs, coffee cups and even wine! They have it all! Everything feels thoughtfully made with fresh, quality ingredients, which just makes the whole experience that much better. Shaughnessy Café has quickly become my go-to spot for a comforting drink and delicious snack any day of the
Shaughnessy Village is more than just a neighbourhood it’s a community that’s perfect for students who want to experience the best of Montreal without straying too far from the comforts of downtown living. Whether you’re in it for the food, the fun, or just a fresh place to explore, Shaughnessy Village has all the charm of a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.
So why not take a stroll through its lively streets, grab a coffee, and see for yourself why so many students are calling Shaughnessy Village their home away from home? You just might find your new favorite spot in the city! 🚶☕ 🏙
